The TCAHA winter hockey season consists of youth instructional and team play at the House (recreational) or Rep (competitive) level. There are programs and teams for youth ages 4 to 18. Teams generally practice weekly and play games both home and away, including regular season games and tournaments. Joining any of these teams requires a commitment to do your best to attend all team functions and respect the coaches, referees, fans, and the game.
House hockey offers a full season of instructional recreational hockey with standard ice costs, moderate out-of-town travel, and competitive games against teams of similar skill. The "Beginner's Program" practices twice a week during available sessions in fall, winter, and spring (please refer to the section regarding the Beginners Program). House teams will have evaluations and team drafts in late September, followed by practices and games through mid-March. Practices are two times a week on shared ice, while games are played mostly in the Tri-Cities against other TCAHA teams and against other regional teams (Moses Lake, Lewiston, Moscow, Spokane). Equally, TCAHA teams may travel to the rinks of these regional teams to play in games or tournaments. Each team, when formed will determine what tournaments they want to attend. The costs listed below are for TCAHA registration (as well as our governing bodies) and are mandatory for all players at the beginning of the season.
Rep hockey offers a full season of instructional competitive hockey with additional ice costs, increased practice times, typical out-of-town travel, and games against teams with stronger skill sets than House. Tryouts and team placement take place in early August and the season continues through mid-March. Rep hockey is optional and players are selected based on performance evaluations during tryouts. Players who successfully complete tryouts are not required to play rep if selected. Practices are generally three times a week with games occurring on weekends. Regular games are played in the Tri-Cities and other metro areas of the northwest (Seattle, Spokane, Portland, etc) against other competitive teams, generally in the PNAHA and Inland Leagues. Each team, when formed will determine what tournaments they want to attend. The costs listed below are for TCAHA registration (as well as our governing bodies) and are mandatory for all players at the beginning of the season. However Rep ice fees are additional costs beyond what House players are allotted. These fees are payable in installments to your team account. Often teams will retain additional sponsors or have fundraisers to help offset these costs.
TCAHA has a family discount for all families with multiple children in the same immediate family that play winter season hockey (Mites through Midgets). Every additional child, after the first, will receive $50 off of each subsequent registration fee.
Any TCAHA season registration with an unpaid balance by August 12th will be assigned to a payment plan:
FAILURE TO COMPLETE ANY ONE OF THESE PAYMENTS BY THE DUE DATE WILL RESULT IN A LATE PAYMENT FEE OF $50 PER MISSED PAYMENT DEADLINE. ANY BALANCES NOT PAID-IN-FULL BY 12/01 WILL RESULT IN PLAYER(S) REMOVAL FROM ICE.
House hockey players may apply for a Chuck Mantello Scholarship that assists with registration fees only. Additional expenses will be required beyond what is listed above for equipment, socks, extra ice, tournament registration, travel, rep ice fees, etc., depending on the age group and the teams' decisions.
